PSPHOTOGRAPHYTEENS.COM
So exciting to announce the launch of our new TEEN website! We have talked about it, brainstormed about it, worked on it and now it’s finally done! We love photographing quineañeras, seniors and teens so much that we felt it deserved a site separate from our current website www.psphotography.net. The website has more room to show off our unique photographs as well as our famous and popular “Styled Shoots”. Take a look and tell us what you think!!!! Take a tour of our new Miami Studio! We are so excited to show it off! It has been in the works for a while now, and we finally moved in! Like the Jefferson’s said, “Movin’ on up”, but actually, we moved downstairs. Yup, it’s in the same building, but with much more space! We are still in the process of putting in some finishing touches (our acrylic coffee table and new leather desk chairs should be arriving soon), but we couldn’t wait to put up some images of our work in progress. So, come on by! 165 Madeira Ave Suite 1 in Coral Gables

We got dolled up with professional hair and makeup, shopped for new outfits and shoes, and voila! Here is some of the magic! Patty + Susie (Alan and Lauren, too!!!)

{Oscars 2013} Best Dressed

Categories: Ramblings of a photographer Tags: + + + +
02.25.2013

As wedding photographers, we see hundreds of wedding dresses from different designers. But, watching the Oscars 2013, the dresses that many of the actresses wore were the highlight for us! From strapless, to bold colors, these leading ladies know how to steal the show. Here are our absolutely favorite gowns that we would love to see in white down the aisle… But my vote for best dressed was Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. Just breathtaking! And, I also loved Jessica Chastain in Armani and her Jessica Rabbit signature red lips. But, not far behind is Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta. Who do you think was the best dressed?

{But what do I wear?} Don’t stress about your session…

So, you decided to to take the plunge and book that photo shoot you have been talking about. I mean, the last time you and your family got photographed, well, it has been some time now. Now, the dreaded question, “What in the world are we going to wear?” I know there are basic rules you hear about, “Can’t go wrong with solids” or “Patterns can be too busy” or “Wear all white”… Well, some of these can be true, but let’s just discuss some points that we recommend.

BE YOURSELF Don’t wear something your are uncomfortable in, or don’t feel is your style just for the pictures. Although, dressing up and getting your hair and make up done is a perk to having a photo shoot, but don’t go so far that when you look at the pictures, you don’t recognize yourself! Also, if your son is in a cowboy stage, go with it! Bring along some boots, jeans and a cowboy hat! We are documenting a stage in their lives that they will outgrow, and move on to something else, but wouldn’t it be great to capture that moment in time, and look back years from now to remember how he use to smirk with that missing tooth and say “Yee Haw”? Also, a rule of thumb is if that shirt irritates your kids’ skin or the shoes are just too uncomfortable, your pictures will show it. So, make sure when shopping, to take that into consideration.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING? I always like to give clients an idea of wardrobe by first asking how is your home decorated? If you have vintage furniture and antiques, I wouldn’t recommend your shoot look ultra modern in the city. I would suggest that you look around, and visualize where you will hang your pictures, and what colors/themes match the area, and go from there.
COLOR IS MY FRIEND Let’s say it together now, “Color is my friend.” Now, seriously, the only time you should be wearing all white is the day your walk down the aisle to say “I do”. I mean, do you normally run around in all white? Then, now is not the time to experiment. Gone are the days of white button down shirts and jeans. Show your individual personalities by choosing several colors to work with. For example, choosing one pattern for the princess of the family that has yellows and grays, then using that palette to continue the theme with the adults. Even if you introduce another color. It’ll all look amazing together. I look back at some pictures and see families with the same colors, same jeans, etc, and think, “Uniforms are for school, not shoots.”
PLAIDS AND POLKA DOTS Who said rules aren’t meant to be broken. Here’s one I encourage! Patterns are not bad, but TOO much pattern is. Like I said before, starting with some type of pattern to base the color scheme on is perfect, but everyone wearing that same pattern is a disaster. It should be a hint of pattern, not polkda dot overload!
ACCESSORIES, ACCESSORIES “My motto is to go wild on the accessories – the belts, the hair clips, the jewelery.” Heidi Klum has a point with her motto. Accessories can enhance your outfit and make them picture perfect. There is nothing like a fabulous belt and great earrings to give that “umpf” to your look, but make sure that when choosing for your little ones, not to over do it that they want to claw off that huge flower on their head. Shoes are a great accessory to any outfit. Choose wisely (and comfortably, too).
So, these are just some rules to shop by… But, remember, rules are meant to be broken, so be creative and let your imagination run wild! Follow us on Pinterest to see some more fashion ideas… http://pinterest.com/psphotog/

{Aiden on Ellen} Patty, the “P” in PS

01.31.2013

I will begin where I left off… I had no clue as to what to expect when we arrived in California. I was told by the Ellen DeGeneres staff that once I arrived, they would fill me in on more details as to what Aiden will be doing on the show. Just a quick recap, Aiden has been learning his states using a few iPad apps that he insisted we get him. Then, once he conquered the United States, he wanted to learn about all the countries. So, we got him some more iPad apps. Then, we found out that we were invited to the Ellen Show Friday evening, and so much has happened since then. We landed Monday and within an hour of checking into the hotel we received a call. The Ellen Show has put together a few ideas that will show off Aiden’s geography skills. Because Aiden is only four, they were worried how he would react to the stage and react to these “ideas” they thought up. So they felt he may need a rehearsal. So, we scheduled a rehearsal Tuesday afternoon, but before Aiden got to work, I promised him a day at Universal Studios Park. The Ellen Show graciously put us in a hotel inside Universal Studios, very convenient. We spent the morning having fun, just me and Aiden which was so special for us both. I always attempt to spend quality time with each of the boys individually, but sometimes it’s challenging to say the least! So I made sure we took advantage of this ‘one on one’ time so it will be a trip he wouldn’t forget. After a few rides, a big bag of cotton candy, it was time to head to the studio. The staff at the Ellen Show could not have been any nicer to us. Aiden developed a huge crush with Tracy (a staff member). After some chatting, we walked on stage, and as soon as Aiden got a glimse of the map they put together for him, his eyes widened with excitement. Then, when he was told that the map was a game that he would be playing with Ellen and the map will light up and there was a “ding” when he would get an answer, right he was so elated. He, of course, passed the rehearsal with flying colors. Then, Tracy came up with a few “games” that Aiden and I needed to play in order to prepare him for Thursday’s taping. Games like “the staring game” where you need to stare at the person who is talking to you. The second game was “the long sentence game” where you need to try to answer the question using as many words as possible. But all I kept thinking was, “Is it really even possible to prepare him for what is going to happen tomorrow”. I couldn’t stop myself from thinking of all things that could possibly go wrong; I was beyond nervous for him. My tactic from day one was to not convey too much importance about being on the show. The Ellen Show was just one more thing I had planned while in California. We would be going to Universal Studios Park, Hollywood Boulevard, visit the Griffith Observatory, oh and I almost forgot we are going to the Ellen DeGeneres show and you are going to be on TV. LOL. I think the tactic worked. Aiden never once showed any signs of being nervous, overwhelmed, or frightened. I, on the other hand, felt every possible emotion all at once when I saw him walk on that big stage. The feeling was intense and once I tuned into the backstage monitor where I was watching the live show, I saw Aiden jogging (maybe even skipping) to greet Ellen with a huge smile across his face… And I was relieved-he is going to be fine! Aiden did more than fine! He was cute, smart, funny, quirky, silly, cool, and sweet. He is amazing and so very brave. I knew that it was a big deal that Aiden was going on Ellen, but not until I was backstage with him making my way towards the stage that I realized the accomplishment. He is so special that we have been flown across the United States to be on a nationally televised show.
I am overwhelmed with pride that this boy is my son! I know that the future holds many more powerful moments that will make me feel the way I feel at this moment, but I am definitely soaking it all in and enjoying the moment. I am so blessed in so many ways and right now at this moment in time life couldn’t be any better.
And if you weren’t able to see my Aiden on the show, here is a clip from yesterday’s show.

P.S. Ryan Seacrest was backstage and spoke to us for a bit, “So sweet, congratulations Aiden on a job well done!” Love him… Talk about being starstruck!
